FeCrAl alloys offer high resistivity and good oxidation resistance at lower cost than nickel-chromium. They are brittle after high-temperature service — avoid mechanical shock and hard bending, and allow for thermal expansion.

Nickel-chromium alloys have good ductility and stable resistivity, and are suitable for elements that are switched on and off frequently. Avoid sulphur-bearing atmospheres.
