Short answer: we produce FeCrAl heating wire and strip in 1Cr13Al4, 0Cr23Al5, 0Cr25Al5, 0Cr21Al6Nb and 0Cr27Al7Mo2, covering 950 °C to 1400 °C, in wire from φ0.03 mm and strip from 0.05 mm.
| If your situation is… | Use | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Above 1250 °C | FeCrAl | NiCr tops out around 1250 °C; 0Cr21Al6Nb reaches 1350 °C, 0Cr27Al7Mo2 reaches 1400 °C |
| Sulphur in the atmosphere or the charge | FeCrAl | NiCr is destroyed by sulphur; FeCrAl is not |
| Frequent thermal cycling, needs ductility | NiCr | NiCr stays ductile; FeCrAl becomes brittle with age |
| Element has to be bent or re-bent at room temperature | NiCr | FeCrAl is brittle cold; it must be formed warm |
| Cost per kilogram matters more than element life | FeCrAl | No nickel content |
| Long element, wide span, sagging is a risk | FeCrAl with Nb | Niobium pins the grain boundaries and resists creep |
| Grade | Cr % | Al % | ρ20 (μΩ·m) | Max service temp. | Positioning |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1Cr13Al4 | 12-15 | 3.5-4.5 | 1.25 ±0.05 | 950 °C / 1742 °F | Entry grade, low temperature |
| 0Cr23Al5 | 20-23 | 4.5-6.0 | 1.35 ±0.05 | 1250 °C / 2282 °F | Workhorse grade |
| 0Cr25Al5 | 23-26 | 4.5-6.5 | 1.40 ±0.05 | 1300 °C / 2372 °F | Most common high-temperature grade |
| 0Cr21Al6Nb | 20-22 | 5.0-7.0 + Nb | 1.45 ±0.05 | 1350 °C / 2462 °F | Niobium-bearing, resists sag |
| 0Cr27Al7Mo2 | 26-28 | 6.0-7.0 + Mo | 1.53 ±0.05 | 1400 °C / 2552 °F | Top of the range |
| Form | Weight per metre (0Cr25Al5) |
|---|---|
| Wire φ1.0 mm | 5.23 g/m |
| Wire φ3.0 mm | 47.1 g/m |
| Strip 1.0 × 20 mm | 100.3 g/m |
| Strip 3.0 × 20 mm | 300.9 g/m |
Basis: density 7.1 g/cm³ for 0Cr25Al5. FeCrAl is markedly lighter than NiCr for the same volume — worth remembering when the element's own weight is what makes it sag.
